The Project

March 2010, Cooper's Battery B asked and received permission
from the Gettysburg National Military Park to replace a monument
that was dedicated to Cooper's Battery B, 1st PA Light Artillery in
August of 1880. It has the distinction of being the first artillery and
tenth overall monument to be placed on the Gettysburg Battlefield
on East Cemetery Hill. Unfortunately, the monument has the
distinction of being unreadable for decades.

Based on historical sources, the probable inscription is at the bottom
of the above display. There are some discrepancies that meed to be
ironed out before it's chiseled in stone. There is no record with either
the GNMP or Cooper's as to the specific details. There is J. Howard
Wert's book written in 1886 that gives the best record of the
inscription although not in exact detail. Estimated cost to replace it
is $12,000.
